World Tourism Day

Every year, World Tourism Day is celebrated on 27 September, it was started in 1980 and is annually celebrated ever since. In 1970, the Statutes of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation adopted a milestone in global tourism on this day.

  • Tourism in India is important for economy grow according to The World Travel and Tourism Council calculated that tourism generated ₹16.91 lakh crore it is 9.2% of India's GDP in 2018  as well as it support 42.673 million jobs, 8.1 Per cent of its total employment.

World Tourism Day Theme 2021 “Tourism for Inclusive Growth.”

  • Tourism for inclusive growth meaning, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive social and economic impact. Both developed and developing economies have been hit. And marginalized groups and the most vulnerable have been hit hardest of all. The restart of tourism will help kickstart recovery and growth.

  • UNWTO is a leading UN international agency in the field of tourism.
  • Objectives to promote tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability and offers leadership and support to the sector in advancing knowledge and tourism policies worldwide.
