  • World Post Day is celebrated every year on October, 9 on the day of establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) at Switzerland and celebrated all across the world.


Key Points:

  • This year's theme 2021 of the World Post Day is 'Innovate to recover'

  • UPU says "When COVID-19 affected all the countries of the world, including the established supply chain infrastructure, the Post still found a way to continue offering services to communities."

  • As well As statement added, "It is this innovativeness of Posts, and their resilience in serving communities, that we are celebrating on the occasion of World Post Day.”

  • Post office is playing an important role in socio economic development.

  • Indian Post Celebrating National Postal Week from 9th October every year.

  • Indian Post office motto “Service before Help”

  • Indian postal services are relevant after PM Modi ji launch Postal Saving bank, reach via financial inclusion.

  • Post office is important digital India as well as Central Govt Program Implementations.


About Indian Post office:

  • Since independent 1947, the postal service continues to function nationwide basis, providing a variety of services.

  • India Post is under the jurisdiction of Department of Post, Ministry of Communications of the Government of India.

  • Warren Hastings had taken initiative under East India Company to start the Postal Service in the country in 1766.

  • Indian Postal Department adopted the motto "Service before help"; it revised its logo in September 2008.

  •  It was introduced on 15 August 1972 by former Prime Minister Indira Gandh, it is six-digit postal code.


Project Arrow:

  •  Project Arrow was launched in April 2008.


  • The project plans to upgrade post offices in urban and rural areas, improving service and appearance into a vibrant and responsive organization and to make a visible and positive difference.

  • The project aims to create an effective, friendly environment for staff and customers, providing secure IT services and improving mail delivery, remittances (electronic and manual) and postal-savings plans.

  • Core areas for improvement are branding, information technology, human resources and infrastructure.


Universal Postal Union

  • The Universal Postal Union, established by the Treaty of Bern of 1874,

  • It is a specialized agency of the United Nations that coordinates postal policies among member nations, in addition to the worldwide postal system.
